Did you know that the US boasts 433 National Park Service sites? And while only 63 are technically National Parks, there are some beautiful gems out there that you shouldn’t sleep on. Get out and explore our lands….
Colorado NM, CO – western Colorado is remote & seldom seen but has one of the best 23 mile scenic drives in the country along the edges of Rim Road, Devils Kitchen, Serpents Trail & Echo Canyon were all <3.5 miles.
Chiricahua NM, AZ – don’t discredit or skip this remote park in eastern Arizona, as it is National park worthy! Towering hoodoos, epic trails & total seclusion highlight this gem.
El Morro NM, NM – from lava beds to epic views, this monument is very enjoyable for a half day excursion & my fav was scaling atop this rock jungle before racing downhill to beat the park closing its gates.
Bandelier NM, NM – I regret not spending more time at this robust site on my quick return pass thru New Mexico, as the hikes were filled with adventurous ladders leading to cliffside ancient dwellings ranging from 500-900 years old.
Dinosaur NM, CO – nestled into the seldom visited western park of CO, this site boasts over 1500 fossils on the cliff face & is a blast to jump amongst all the layered rocks.
So on my quest to see our vast country, I’ve knocked off 165 of these protected lands. At only 38% completed, my journey is only just beginning & I couldn’t be more excited to dive even deeper into the stories within.
