What do you stand for? Over the past 15 years of hard core adventures, I’ve slowly & methodically formed my own travel style. I’m equally happy hanging on to a narrow cliffside as i am sipping a Miami Vice beachside soaking in the Caribbean sunshine. Balance is everything!
After visiting all 50 states, 33 cruises, 60 of our 63 National Parks, 70 countries & all 7 continents, these guiding principles are the patchwork of my journey & continue to be my North Star:
- I have a loose list of saved hikes & recommended must sees – the night before heading out for any adventure, narrow down the list & put in chronological order to maximize your route
- Travel light – carryon is the only way to go, so shed that extra weight & you will thank me later
- My preferred trek length is 3-5 miles each, so that I can conquer 3-4 different trails per day with varied terrains & must see vistas
- Snacks will save you – I’d much rather squeeze in another sight than waste precious daylight at a sit down meal
- No regrets….. I always ask myself in the moment “will I regret it if I don’t splurge or make time for this?”
- Be open for a detour & not afraid to deviate from the plan
- I can catch up on sleep on my travel day home, so pack it all in
- There is nothing better than packing a picnic lunch & finding a perch to enjoy the views after a hard climb to a peak
- When a climb gets tough & you feel like quitting, my 2 tried & true tricks to power through – gummy bears & a killer playlist
- Post vacation depression is a real thing – once you’ve experienced the freedom & excitement of a new destination, routine is very tough to readjust to
- Always have the next adventure booked to have something to look forward to!
NO REGRETS….. EVER!!
The journey never ends…..
